The evening will also include some traditional flamenco and Spanish guitar pieces.

A favorite of Acorn Theatergoers, The Guitars of Spain is world music ensemble with a "Spanish guitar twist," that performs a fusion of Cuban son (a relative to salsa music), rumba, R&B, Latin-jazz, blues, and African percussion with an underlying flamenco music and dance focus. Las Guitarras de España will perform music from their 3 acclaimed CD releases, "Ida y Vuelta," "Un Respiro Por El Mundo," and "Cuatro Por Arriba." The music of the three releases reflects travel of ensemble members to Spain, Cuba, India, and Morocco. This performance will feature select pieces from each of the discs as well as some new music and dance material.

Over the past seven years, they have consistently performed to sold-out venues in Chicago and the Midwest. The ensemble has also performed at numerous schools, concert series, and performing arts venues. Members of the ensemble have roots from Brazil, Peru, Italy, Cuba, Mexico, and Portugal and they have traveled to, and performed or studied in, over 30 countries.

Written, performed, and directed by Emmy-award winning playwright and actor Donna Blue Lachman, and performed with a cast of young actors, this inspiring evening of theater brings to life the true story of FRIEDL DICKER-BRANDEIS, a remarkable art teacher.

During the Holocaust Friedl spent her last two years in Terezin, a Czech ghetto where many of the intellectual and artistic elite of Europe were imprisoned.
She showed children how Art can deepen their connections to one another, taught them to see light in the darkness, and pointed them toward the true meaning of survival.

Friedl hid five thousand drawings which were found after the war, and are now exhibited all around the world.

Lachman spent time in Terezin doing research for the play and met with survivors who studied with Friedl sixty years ago. There stories are the heart of the play.

With music by the Jeff-Award winner composer, Michael Vitali and set by Jeff Bauer, one of the best theater designers in Chicago.

A beautiful, funny and transcendent theater event. Only seven performances! Don't miss it!
This play is not appropriate for children under 8.

Jefferson Starship, with founders Paul Kantner and David Freiberg, along with Grateful Dead's Tom Constanten, prepare for the 40th Anniversary "Heroes of Woodstock" tour with two special 'warm-up' performances at the intimate Acorn Theater. Also appearing is Chicago native Cathy Richardson who won acclaim playing Janis Joplin in "Love, Janis" on Broadway. Cathy joined the band at the beginning of last year. Jefferson Starship, a collaboration of celebrated musicians that plays from the rich songbook of its legendary forefathers Jefferson Airplane and the original incarnation of Jefferson Starship, prevails as one of the most critically acclaimed touring acts today. Steeped in the fantastic realms of science fiction and the contemporary American shadow land, Jefferson Starship features a stellar cast of old and new players, including songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Paul Kantner, vocalist David Freiberg both of whom founded Jefferson Starship and were crucial in developing the renowned "San Francisco Sound" that changed the course of pop music forever.

"We love The Acorn" cites longtime manager Michael Gaiman. "It will be a treat playing such a perfect room before touring 10,000 seaters" as is the case with this years Woodstock commemorative" he added. The band previously played The Acorn acoustically and made fast friends with David Fink & the venue's staff.
The band headlines “THE HEROES OF WOODSTOCK” Tribute Tour, summer 2009, commemorating that iconic festival.
Two amazing shows!
